100th Day of School Food Drive!

It’s time for the annual Weber food drive!

Each year, the Weber Student Council sponsors a food drive to benefit the food bank at the Johnson County Crisis Center. This year, our goal is for each class at Weber to bring in 100 items by the 100th day of school, which will be on Thursday, January 26 (barring any snow days!)

Please consider sending items with your child(ren) to school for this project. Listed below are the “Top 10 Items” that the Crisis Center has indicated that they need. Please be sure that any items sent are non-perishable, unopened, and not past the expiration date.

TOP 10 ITEMS NEEDED
1. Financial donations 6. Canned fruit
2. Canned meat 7. Pasta and rice
3. Peanut butter 8. Baby formula
4. Soups and stews 9. Diapers (esp. sz 1 or 2)
5. Canned vegetables 10. Toilet paper

Any class who can bring in at least 100 items for the food drive by the 100th day of school (January 26) will earn a Pictionary party with Mrs. Frisbie!

Pop Tab Collection Incentive!

HELP US LEAP AHEAD IN OUR POP TAB COLLECTION

1. The buddy class combo to bring in the most tabs by Wednesday, February 29 (get it…Leap Day…leap ahead…) will win a sledding party and hot chocolate.
2. Please be sure that any pop tabs that are brought to me or put into the big cardboard Ronald McDonald House by the office are labeled with the name of the classroom teacher who should get credit.
3. In the event that we do not have any snow when it comes time for the sledding party, I will still do hot chocolate/treats AND we can do Buddy Bingo instead.
4. Remember that the tabs from soup/veggie cans work too. Encourage kids to ask friends and family to help them save.

Bittersweet in 2012

Beginning a new year has always been an exciting event in my life. I thoroughly enjoy reflecting on the previous year and setting goals for the new year personally and professionally. As I think about the goals for our Weber Elementary, it brings sadness.

As you know, 2012 will bring many changes to the Weber community. Although we know that changes in our community were necessary and the opening of Borlaug Elementary is much needed, due to being nearly 100 students over capacity, it is still a sad change for all of us. Weber will lose approximately 220 of our current students, many families, 4-5 classroom teachers, our assistant principal, and some paraeducator support. These changes weigh heavy on all of our hearts.

The Weber staff will continue to be passionate about meeting the needs of each one of our students, creating activities to make the transitions ahead of us as smooth as possible, and continue to communicate with our parent community through the Dolphin 411 and our web site.

The sweet part of this change is that our students going to Borlaug have an awesome opportunity to open this beautiful, brand new school. They will be creating a new community and culture of learners with brand new traditions at Borlaug. In addition, there will be a fabulous principal in Celeste Shoppa and hard working staff members.

Bittersweet for sure.
