Bittersweet in 2012

Beginning a new year has always been an exciting event in my life. I thoroughly enjoy reflecting on the previous year and setting goals for the new year personally and professionally. As I think about the goals for our Weber Elementary, it brings sadness.

As you know, 2012 will bring many changes to the Weber community. Although we know that changes in our community were necessary and the opening of Borlaug Elementary is much needed, due to being nearly 100 students over capacity, it is still a sad change for all of us. Weber will lose approximately 220 of our current students, many families, 4-5 classroom teachers, our assistant principal, and some paraeducator support. These changes weigh heavy on all of our hearts.

The Weber staff will continue to be passionate about meeting the needs of each one of our students, creating activities to make the transitions ahead of us as smooth as possible, and continue to communicate with our parent community through the Dolphin 411 and our web site.

The sweet part of this change is that our students going to Borlaug have an awesome opportunity to open this beautiful, brand new school. They will be creating a new community and culture of learners with brand new traditions at Borlaug. In addition, there will be a fabulous principal in Celeste Shoppa and hard working staff members.

Bittersweet for sure.
